8pm – 7am

Bank Holiday Season’ is a phrase that instantly conjures beatific bedlam in club land. Any excuse of another day of partying leaves the hordes of weekend warriors clambering for an extra epithet, Sunday’s usual role in quietening down transformed into an extended excursion through the lunacy. And no one quite does the epic Sunday session better than Sankeys. Ladies and gentleman, we welcome you back to the Jackathon.

Their famed excursions over the years have included marathon sets from NY legend Danny Tenaglia and line-ups that seem more akin to the super-clubbing philosophy which club openings in Ibiza offer. As May rolls up to usher in the silly season, Sankeys continue to live up to their legacy with an offering so crammed full of talent it is one of the highlights of the electronic calendar already.

Bulging at the seams, the peerless ensemble is a smorgasbord of the hottest names within modern dance music. Heidi tops the bill, the DJ with a technical craft as tight as the ringlets that spout from her head and a musical know-how that very obviously stems from her ownership of one of the world’s finest vinyl emporiums, London’s roaring success, Phonica. She also has her own revered In New Music We Trust show on Radio 1. It’s Heidi inspired vision which has created the epic Jackathons – simply put, and enduring legacy to the finest raves.

Joining the house vixen will be German groove shaman Steve Bug. A regular fixture at Sankeys over the past seven years, Steve Bug has been one of the true impresarios of twenty first century house music, his Poker Flat at the epicentre of exciting electronica and master craftsmen

Innervisions head honcho Dixon is also in tow, bringing his mystic take on sun drenched house, soul battered disco and mood altering techno to Manchester’s best loved dancefloor. One of the true inspirations of our times, his ability to transcend genres and paint epic mosaics of sounds will gift the bank holiday hedonists a true education within music

Producers du jour Wolf + Lamb also star, going head to head with fellow duo Soul Clap for jaw-dropping 8-hour back to back session in Spektrum as part of their DJ Kicks tour. Their glee-ridden edits plunder R&B, Hip-hop, and 90s house flavours just as readily as they do more modern soundscapes, whilst their shows at the Macy Hotel in native NYC have become the stuff of legend. Oh and they can claim to have had a helping hand in nurturing talent like Nicolas Jaar, No Regular Play and Seth Troxler.

And don’t forget Soul Clap either. The Bostonian duo are sonic scientists who craft deep disco, crate-dug house and classics from the vaults, along with their own upfront edits and cuts. Mixing these two pairs together makes for four times the delectable deepness.

The local vibe isn’t undiminished either, with Sankeys throwing forward some of their own guns alongside a smattering of the finest djing talent Manchester can muster. Resident Ellesse and – Kaluki’s head man – leads the charge, with Pete Zorba, Treehouse, LaLoop and the Micron DJs are all bringing their own swagger to round off the vibes.

We Love…
We Love…Space Announces Season Highlights 2011 Weekly Sundays 12th June – 25th September ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’

As Space’s flagship party, We Love… is the vanguard of Ibiza’s aural landscape, providing one of the best clubbing atmospheres in the world. The first club to put Playa D’en Bossa on the map, We Love… welcomes the 2011 season bringing plentiful new activity to the area. With six separate arenas including two of Ibiza’s only open-air clubbing spaces, Space is simply the finest club on the island right now in which to catch an abundance of diverse talent and different musical genres. A weekly festival within a nightclub, We Love… continues to more than satisfy their demanding and passionate fan-base.

A string of the world’s finest artists will be setting the beat of our summer 2011 including one of the most inventive and influential figures in contemporary electronic music, Aphex Twin, who joins us following his unforgettable show last year. Special appearances are scheduled from musical pioneer and global superstar, Fatboy Slim, techno legend famed for his lightning fast mixing techniques and timeless productions, Jeff Mills, remixers of everyone from LCD Soundsystem to Late of the Pier, 2manydj’s, resident James Zabielawho celebrates ten years with We Love… and flying Dutchman Joris Voornwho caused huge waves in Ibiza during his 2010 residency. The man who arguably invented Detroit Techno, Derrick May and last summer’s explosive talent, Tensnake join the act behind the album of last summer, Caribou and We Love… favorites Claude Von Stroke, Miss Kittin, Hot Chip DJs Felix Martin and Al Doyle, Simian Mobile Disco and Funkagenda, to name a few.

The opening party on the 12th June is set to define this years Ibiza season as We Love… Space celebrate the seminal 20 Years of Planet E. Few labels have managed to stand the test of time and if they have, even fewer can legitimately claim to be both as relevant, and as influential as they were twenty years back. Planet E hasn´t just survived the last twenty years but positively reveled in it. Detroit techno mastermind Carl Craig will be joined by Derrick May and Paul Woolford, who have both recently presented the label with blistering releases. These masterminds take control of the main room Discoteca for what will be a rare and prestigious vinyl-only session in celebration of the label. Carl Craig said of the fiesta, “It´s gonna be the bomb! Rock hard. Tits and ass. Gracias.”

Joining them will be We Love… weekly resident Jem Haynes while the world famous Space Terraza plays host to James Zabiela, who will be showcasing his special terraza house sound for 2011. The Hot Chip DJs Felix Martin and Al Doyle return for the first of their three date exclusive residency and Radio 1 current ‘In New DJs We Trust’ favourite Heidi brings the jacking sound of Chi Town with support from Made To Play’s Jesse Rose. Kicking proceedings off will be non other than We Love…’s own Mat Playford who plays a three hour live show comprising of a fully integrated custom built analogue set-up to compliment his already well-respected DJing.

2011 brings new faces to share this summer series of events with Friends and Family of We Love… including four Sunset Terrace shows from BBC Radio 1’s Jaymo and Andy George’s Moda label who have become one the UK´s most acclaimed independent imprints, releasing the freshest music from some of the worlds most exciting new bands and producers such as Tom Staar, Bxentric and Fenech Soler.

Ryan O’Gorman returns with The Burlington Project to host twelve intimate dates in the Redbox showcasing the cream of the underground house and techno scene. Over the past few years these shows have fast become the place to be seen on a Sunday. Ryan said of the venture “The We Love and G-Shock partnership has allowed Burlington Project the chance to be experimental with its bookings, introducing people as diverse as dOP, Wolf & Lamb, Levon Vincent and Appleblim, not only to Space but also to Ibiza. The intimate nature of the Redbox has been the perfect home for these esoteric sounds. As a music lover it´s been fantastic being part of a weekly musical event that offers so much variety”.

Originating from the notorious Brixton venue, The Bug Bar Chew The Fat!have now become an unarguable force in dance music with a blog, record label, club night, management company and DJ agency and have four shows in the Discoteca coming up over the summer months. Ibiza winter favorites Rock Nights are hosting six sunset terrace shows. Rock Nights resident DJ Colin Peters asks fellow shock jocks Cassette Jam, Oink Oink and We Love… favourite Andy Carroll to help host proceedings for what promises to be a festival atmosphere. Tirk Records, the disco treasure that continues the Nuphonic tradition of releasing music that is cutting edge yet accessible, will take up residence in the El Salon room, along with some special events from West London’s infamous fashonista Black Rabbit party. El Salon is an intimate space for 200 people with a distinctive timeless disco feel.

We Love…new exclusive residents for 2011 jozif and Mat Playford have been island favourites over the past two summers, blossoming into inspiring artists in their own rights. Mat Playford has been one of the true success stories of We Love… over the past few years, launching his Ibiza career on the infamous terrace and now cementing that journey with a new residency and contribution to the first We Love…Artist Portrait album series. This exciting and fresh new episode is a new concept for 2011 and features Playford’s original productions as well as a seamless multi-artist mix. jozif, though relatively new to production, has already seen his musical gems released on Wolf + Lamb, Vitalik, Hypercolour and Leftroom and has recently paired up with Craig Richards for a special limited edition label project, Fist or Finger.

We Love… are the true masters at finding new stars and breaking new talent. With their six different arenas at Space, it is the heart of Ibiza and a temple for clubbing. Forget about doing anything else on Sundays…

We Love… is ‘The Greatest Show On Earth’.

Audiofly’s album debut has been a long time coming. Not just because Luca Saporito and Anthony Middleton share nine years of production history, but because of the sheer volume and sonic breadth of the anthems, EPs and sought-after remixes that they have amassed throughout their illustrious career – Audiofly are true veterans of the scene.

‘Follow My Liebe’ is the long-awaited long-form passion project that references all shades of the Audiofly spectrum: from their dirty, jacking techno to the sleeker, dubbier, minimal tones of Audiofly X and deeper still to the sound design and ambient atmospheres that the duo have never before revealed. Follow My Liebe spans electro pop, techno, dub and downtempo, but is held together by the deep indigo tones, twilight atmospheres and early morning stillness that are present throughout.

The album opener and title track “Follow My Liebe” takes its cues from sun-drenched Balearic vibes, with space aplenty for sea breezes, languid sunsets and hummed choruses. Over its pulsing guitar, shadows and whispers elongate and disappear into whisps of cosmic trails. “Kiss and Tell” raises the tempo to slow house, but still steps lightly with rhythmic sweeps, delicate ride cymbals, and a faraway duet of hand and voice, before taking a sharp turn left, then down, into fractured rhythms, distorted sounds and quickening bass tones.

“Fela”, finds its rhythmic grounding in the organic fusion of chattering voices and the peaks and troughs of Rhodes, for an Afrobeat infused slow-house burner, while the late-night tech house of “Black Cat” is fuelled by bass pulses that chug rhythmically with the intricate synth play that weaves around them. “My Happy Place” and “Talktome” are primed and ready for the dancefloor, rolling heavy and deep, the latter with snaky shimmering percussion, distant drums, and a rolling, infectious beat that rewrites itself, landing gently in a bed of pealing, humming melodies. “Lo-Rise” is a workout of pure tribal hypnotism, with solid shafts of dub reverb that shift in and out clarity, combining with vocal snips and chirping, piping noises for a solid quirk-house number.

Vocals are an integral part of Follow My Liebe’s character, and provide its most affecting, personal moments. “6 Degrees” reveals melancholic electronic pop at its most devastating, and the lulling reggae vocals of Shaun Parkes enhance the downtempo dub and ambient tones of “Sense and Vision”, which is textured by subtle braille percussion and live instrumentation; while album closer “Puddle of Diamonds” harnesses the gentle power of a husky, jazz-toned femme, that lingers in the memory long after the slinky sighs, deep house rhythm and floating percussive elements have finished.

Audiofly have followed their hearts and their melodic instincts for Follow My Liebe, and have crafted an assured debut that makes a seamless transition from DJ fare to home-listening and back again, with expert ease.

After a mini hiatus Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon’s Classic Music Company is returning to the forefront of house music. The labels vast and hugely influential back catalogue has now been fully re-mastered and will be made available in digital format for the very first time across all download platforms. The catalogue will be released in 3 large batches – each consisting of over 30 original vinyl EPs and will include tracks and remixes from the likes of Freeform Five, Chris Nazuka, Blaze, Isolee, Rob Mello, Freaks, Nail, JT Donaldson, Metro Area, Brett Johnson, Iduceve, Iz & Diz, Ewan Pearson, SWAG, Honey Dijon, Roy Davis Jnr, Style of Eye, Henrik Schwarz, Trevor Jackson, Mark Farina and many more plus lots of previously unreleased tracks.

Luke: “I think the time has come back round again, I think house music is quite relevant within the dance music world; it felt like the moons were in the right place for both of us.”

Derrick: “I think that quality is being appreciated again, people can see the difference between stuff that’s used to sell soft drinks or shoes and stuff that people make because they care. This is honest and real, it’s got a purpose, meaning and mission and Classic is ready to get in there and mix it up.”

The Back catalogue release batches will be made available: Batch 1: 4th April / Batch 2: 25th April / Batch 3: 16th May

With the taste for house back in their mouths, the label will not only re-release its back catalogue but will be signing and releasing new material from friends of the label old and new.

http://www.theclassicmusiccompany.com/

Classic has always been about doing things that didn’t fit into anyone else’s formulaic view of what should be done. Now is not the time to start changing that.

We aren’t a cookie cutter label that can just be plugged into the system…Classic has different connectors.

Circoloco @ DC10 Ibiza 2011 – The Next Level (mixed by Davide Squillace & Matthias Tanzmann)

Moon Harbour
MHR014-2
Release Date: 27-05-2011

The legendary Ibiza club night returns with a compilation to celebrate the new season in 2011 B2B mixed by Circoloco residents Davide Squillace and Matthias Tanzmann….

Since the late 1980s Ibiza has developed into a meeting place for the discerning hedonist and people who prefer to party on their holidays instead of quarreling with other tourists over sunloungers. From 1999 the Circoloco parties at DC10 have been the a highlight of party life on the island, giving them a legendary status that continues from season to season. Every Monday dressed up people dance the day away to sets from the world’s best DJs, all under the glorious Balearic sun. It’s no wonder the party series is one the most-visited on the white island.

Circoloco residents, DJs Davide Squillace and Matthias Tanzmann, have been integral to the party since 2007, both being big names in the scene for a long time. Tanzmann is the man behind the highly respected Moon Harbour label which he has runfor more than ten years now, and Davide Squillace, as well as releasing on well-known labels such as Ovum, Sci+Tec and Desolat, also stirs up the music world with his labels Minisketch, Titbit Music and the recently founded Hideout.

Davide Squillace and Matthias Tanzmann have known each other and played together for years, their legendary back2back sets at Circoloco parties always causing a furor, most recently in Miami, London and of course at DC10. So it’s no surprise at all that the two were called on to compile and mix “Circoloco @ DC10 Ibiza 2011 – The Next Level”; the perfect accompaniment for the coming summer and the new Circoloco season.

The album features some of the best tech fuelled house around, giving a real snapshot to the sound of Circoloco. Artists such as Matthew Dear, Audiofly, Sascha Dive, Italoboyz and Squillace and Tanzmann themselves feature in the tracklist for this stunning mix, bringing a little of the DC10 magic to life, ahead of the season to come.

Circoloco have done it again with a compilation album that shines from beginning to end, enjoy!

I received a message on Facebook from Sheffield DJ and producer Sandy Turnbull with a little note saying “Hope your well. Below is a link to my latest little diddy, “Most Fantastic Thing”…. Let me know your thoughts if you get chance…”

I have had a few bits off Sandy in the past and they have always been quality club grooves, so I took a listen and instantly fell in love with the track, messaged Sandy back telling him that he had something special here and that he should get this out there.

In what seems like no time at all the track has been picked up by one of my favourite labels (who have been laying low for a couple of years- Soulfuric Deep, who make a welcome return.

“The Most Fantastic Thing” by Sandy Turnbull features vocal snippets from legend Danny Krivit. Sandy himself admits that this was inspired by the Chicago house vibe from back in the day and does have undertones of “can u feel it” but he has created something here that is timeless and does not sound out of place today. I described it as a Mr Fingers meets Fire Island kind of deep house groove with a 2011 twist and it has been working wonders for me for weeks.
No matter how you describe it there is no mistaking that Mr Turnbull has turned out a belter, and is certainly a name to keep an eye on….

Bigger, better, bolder and with one almighty line up! The multi-award winning dance festival returns to Daresbury in Cheshire on August Bank Holiday weekend with the biggest electronic line up you’ll see anywhere this year, if beats, basslines and busting dance moves is your tipple then Creamfields is the festival for you.

Selling out in record time last year and attracting record breaking numbers, the original field disco has once again cherry picked the best of the best and secured an array of exclusive performances and headliners for Saturday & Sundays proceedings.

Headlining Saturdays North Stage is The Chemical Brothers, they’re the kings of the block rocking beat, in fact there are few acts who can rival their spellbinding, relentless, euphoric, crowd pleasing performances. This dance festival exclusive will also be Tom & Ed’s last outdoor show in the UK this year. Returning to host his very own Clublife Stage and back by demand is Tiësto, voted the ‘Greatest DJ Of All Time’ by Mixmag readers and attracting a crowd of over 30,000 last year, expect first rate production and a dance music explosion of epic proportions for this UK Festival Exclusive. Trance devotees unite as the Grammy nominated and globally acclaimed Paul van Dyk returns exclusively to host his very own Evolution Arena, bringing with him a truck load of production for what is set to be a spectacular performance from this dance music heavyweight.

On Sunday we are bringing together two dance titans David Guetta and the Swedish House Mafia. Following an overwhelming year, we’re excited to welcome back the force du jour that is Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso, this trio have become one of the most sought after DJ crews in the world, their performance in 2010 was deservedly voted BBC Radio 1’s ‘Essential Mix Of The Year’ and they return to Creamfields for an English festival exclusive to host their own arena for the third year running, only this time in an all new, bigger structure to accommodate the masses who couldn’t get in last year! Expect a hand’s in the air performance like no other with their trademark blockbuster production.

David Guetta has some of the world’s biggest acts fighting for his production skills and is one artiste that has truly crossed over from the intimate dancefloor to the musical masses, he returns in 2011 with an all new stage show to close out the North Stage. Last year he was voted the world’s No.1 DJ by DJ Mag so Creamfields is the obvious choice for trance titan Armin van Buuren who enjoyed his performance so much last year he returns exclusively in 2011 to headline and close out the South Stage. Determined to keep things fresh and exciting, Cream HQ have introduced two new Outdoor Stages, which are needed to house the many headline acts performing this year, they’ve also introduced a flock of new arenas for your pleasure including one of 2010’s biggest artistes Laidback Luke who will be bringing his Super You&Me party to the fields, as he hosts his very own arena – fancy dress essential! Steve Angello will be giving festival goers a double helping of Swedish delight as he debuts his own Size Matters Arena on the Saturday and returns on Sunday under his Swedish House Mafia moniker. Techno fans will be pleased to see the return of the Mixmag Presents Cocoon Arena, Sven Väth who celebrates 30 years on the decks this year will be joined by some of the biggest forces in techno including Marco Carola and a very special performance from Josh Wink. Bass heads and dub-steppers can take sanctuary in the BBC Radio 1Xtra Arena which makes its debut and features the best of the best from the D&B & dubstep stable. Other arena hosts include Swedish DJ/Producer Eric Prydz who returns with his peers and label mates to host the Pryda Friends Arena for the second year running. High priestess of the airwaves Annie Mac makes the journey north with a cherry picked line up for her Annie Mac Presents Arena which includes Erol Alkan, Boys Noize, Fake Blood Live, Jack Beats and more. And it doesn’t stop there, other highlights not to be missed include performances from Calvin Harris who will be making his dj’ing debut at Creamfields, performing alfresco on Saturday and under canvas Sunday. On Saturday dubstep trio Magnetic Man, join The Chemical Brothers on the North Stage along with one of Urban Music’s breakout stars Katy B, American DJ/Producer and Big Beat signing Skrillex who can claim deadmau5 as one of his biggest fans. Creamfields favourites and dance music legends who need little introduction Sasha, Pete Tong and special guest Paul Oakenfold all join the bill. Trance trio Above & Beyond who headline Sunday’s Cream Arena will be joined by the likes of Gareth Emery, Markus Schulz and Adam Sheridan and continuing the sound in the Evolution Arena will be Ferry Corsten, Eddie Halliwell, Judge Jules, John O’Callaghan and Cream resident Gareth Wyn. Joining Laidback Luke in the Super You&Me Arena will be Wolfgang Gartner, Ed Banger duo Carte Blanche featuring DJ Mehdi and Riton, Sidney Samson, Congorock and more. Other acts include DJ/Producer Alex Metric, Dirty South, AN21, Benny Benassi and Dave Spoon join Angello for his Size Matters Arena debut, and BBC Radio 1Xtra have snared a very special performance from Digital Soundboy System feat. Shy FX, Breakage, B.Traits with Donaeo, Youngman + Stamina MC. Expect live performances from London rapper Example and Armin van Buuren collaborator Chicane plus unforgettable performances from the likes of James Zabiela, Afrojack and Joris Voorn, and offering a sanctuary for the lovers of harder beats is the Goodgreef Xtra-Hard Arena which features performances from the likes of Showtek, Lisa Lashes and an exclusive live debut from Organ Donors and providing a more luxurious and pampered ‘festival’ experience we’re pleased to announce that Hed Kandi return as hosts of the Hospitality Arena. More acts to be announced over the coming weeks.

Well… what can we say about this? three words spring to mind instantly… Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!
Without doubt one of the best releases that has landed our way this year. Laid out nicely by an all start lineup from Ibiza based producers SOS, Nima Gorji, Jose De Divina and Javi Murdock. You can see why we got excited when it came through. After listening to it on repeat for about 4hrs yesterday I have to say that the Nima Gorji mix is my personal preference, however not to be shunned.. the Original Mix will be equally destructive on a big sound system, absolutely lovin the Original mixes vocal snip, nicely done guys, top marks all round!

The Verdict = Awesome

Buy now at: AiAiAi

The Danish headphone specialists AIAIAI (pronounced eye eye eye) is taking on established DJ headphones such as Sennheiser’s HD25-SP with these stripped-down, ruggedized and club-tuned ‘cans.

It’s a refreshing reboot of a traditional headset design, with a simple nylon headband supporting the two ear cups, which move on oversized notches to adjust the head size. The ear cushions pop off to reveal metal drivers and there are more padded cushions in the box, for spares. The thick cable is also removable with 3mm jacks at each end, so the phones won’t be wrenched off your head when someone stands on your lead. We all know how that feels.

The whole assembly has been coated in a matte black finish that both protects and gives an irresistibly tactile feel. You know how the backs of HTC cellphones feel? It’s the same stuff, and boy does it feel goooood. The company’s logo is subtly indented on the inside of the band; it’s the very antithesis of the showy Beats brand.

These headphones have clearly been tuned for use in a noisy club as they’re much more sensitive than regular ‘phones and louder even than my Sennheisers. It’s also an obvious benefit for anyone that has a particularly noisy commute to work, or just enjoys their music with volume.

The bass is emphasized to make drums and basslines stand out for easier mixing and it gives the phones a warm tone. But don’t worry, it doesn’t swamp the vocals or other mid-range frequencies. It’s punchy and precise, while guitars and percussion sound equally snappy and rhythmic.

There’s a sense of space in the mid-range that allows strings and vocals to soar while the bass bounces along. What it doesn’t have is the kind of splashy treble that a lot of lightweight headphones tend to, so it can sounds a little reserved if that’s what you’re used to. The Sennheisers, for example, have a much more attacking high-end. At low volume levels, I’d prefer a slightly more bite in the treble.

It’s actually a more natural balance that you’re getting here though and there’s no loss of detail, just a less pronounced hit from the cymbals. On the up side, it means that you can turn the volume way without any brittle treble frequencies to spoil the performance, just an even more open and spacious sound field.

It’s ideal for DJs that need to hear the beat over a noisy sound PA system, but it’s also good news if you listen to rock and dance music in a noisy workplace and need the volume.
Free download voucher for all vinyl tracks included with the first 500 copies

Every now and then, chance pushes two artists into the studio together. When that happens not only do interesting combinations of artists arise, but also the opportunity for exceptional music to be created. The epic pairings of Dan Drastic and Matthias Tanzmann, Chris Lattner and Luna City Express, and Martinez and Matthias Tanzmann team up for the second edition of the very special Moon Harbour Joints series.

Dan Drastic and Matthias Tanzmann open the record with “Puddle Trouble”, a dry, reduced deephouse track which elegantly builds a bridge from funky oldschool grooves to modern house. Following this is Chris Lattner and Luna City Express with “Soul On Soul”, once more demonstrating what they do best: warm and organic deephouse.

The seed to Martinez and Tanzmann’s “Yamanote Line” was sown while both were on a DJ-Tour through Japan. After recording sounds on Tokyo’s Yamanote train line, they later pieced them together in Martinez’s studio in Copenhagen into a tight and grooving techhouse track.

Electronic Music Group and The Warehouse Project set sail on a dual mission to bring the best electronic artists to Croatia as their debut Hideout Festival conquers its shores on 1st – 3rd July 2011.

Croatia is fast becoming the epicenter for young music lovers as a new and exciting destination to explore during the summer. With a range of established boutique festivals nearby, the new Hideout festival speaks to the heart of electronic music fans securing the most cutting-edge artists and outfits from every genre of the underground dance music community.

Friday opens proceedings with the godfather of techno Sven Vath supported by Wax:On residents People Get Real. One third of award-winning band The XX, Jamie XX, performs outside for Resident Advisor’s takeover of Aquarius stage, fresh from his stunning new album with Gil-Scott Heron alongside deep house don and Innervisions frontman, Dixon and the Bristol’s dubstep pioneer, Julio Bashmore. The much-lauded Chase & Status, who have achieved an anthemic no 2 single and album of late and worked with the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Plan B, Tinie Tempah and Cee Lo Green take centre stage on Ibiza’s Reclaim The Dancefloor area alongside BBC Radio 1’s Toddla T. Joining them will be young bassline pioneers Nero, Friction, Rattus Rattus & Klose One and new super talents Modestep.

Some stellar unannounced guests are yet to be announced on Saturday for Hideout promising to blow all other festival programmes out of the water. King of the electro circuit, Erol Alkan joins Radio 1 queen, Annie Mac and disco heroes Aeroplane and Eskimo Twins, who all promise to deliver some fine flavours on the outdoor Aquarius stage. Simian Mobile Disco bring their enigmatic partnership to Hideout following their swift rise to prominence over the past few years. On the Metropolis stage, Aussie bassline masterminds Pendulum join female Brit & Mobo award winner, Ms Dynamite, who has scored chart hits with Katy B and Zinc in recent months. Fabric resident and dubstep luminary, Caspa, steps up with UK icon Redlight, who starred on the cover of DJ mag last year and Sub Focus, hailed for his club anthems, ‘Could This Be Real’ and ‘Splash’ joing Metropolis regular, Mak.

Pitching up on Sunday are label of the moment, Crosstown Rebels featuring head honcho, Damian Lazarus. The label’s young prodigies have become techno’s new elite, showcased at Hideout in Jamie Jones and Detroit’s Seth Troxler, who are also DC10’s newest residents. 2011’s newest stars Art Department pen their ‘gothic house’ sound with this year’s BBC Introducing talent, Robert James.

For fans of drum & bass and dubstep, Hideout’s Ape stage brings the veteran crew out to play on Sunday unveiling the legendary Andy C, one of D&B’s original heroes joined by the similarly prolific Shy FX, who enjoyed a string of chart successes with their appealing sound. More jungle delights come from leader of the pack, Joker, Breakage and Hospital Records maestro, Danny Byrd on the Ape stage. Wax:on stamp their identity on the main stage with an exclusive duo yet to be announced, Italian heroes, Crookers and the raw talent Fake Blood alongside Eskimo Twins. The Warehouse Project and Electronic Music Group have utilised their wealth of experience to bring together the most prolific stars of the past, present and future in a new idyllic spot in a line up of epic proportions, never seen before in Croatia.

Hideout takes place from Friday 1st July until Sunday 3rd July at a brand new location on the beautiful Zrce beach on the Island of Pag. The west coast of the Adriatic Sea is renowned for its crystal clear waters and picturesque rugged shoreline. Hideout festival 2011 is perched on one of finest beaches in the area that runs the entire length of the island and is surrounded by a variety of bars, restaurants, watersports and attractions.

The site features two vast outdoor stages, one indoor/ outdoor venue with views over the sea, two outdoor swimming pools, and large VIP area. Artists will perform from sunrise to sunset at special daytime events on the beach, numerous daily boat parties, as well as on the main festival site. The Chemical Brothers said of the location, “When we die we want our fans to come and listen to our music in Club Papaya”.

Hideout will bring 10,000 attendees from all over Europe in the most exciting and innovative festival project outside of the UK this summer.

The 56th instalment of fabric’s series comes from the Chicago pioneer Derrick Carter. A much-lauded musical hero of the early 90s house music movement, his sound was branded ‘boompty boomp’ after the original musical ability to get people moving. One of the forefathers of house music, Derrick has since stuck to this steadfast style within his music, often reworking and interpreting tracks to fit his own musical sensibility.

“I produce all the time. I put a few specials on my fabric album from my private stock. I re-edit a lot of things. I have a different dancefloor vision. I like to think of it like sports tuners. They get a nice car and it works well enough but they tune it so that it fits their needs. Better performance, add some growl! It’s the same thing, I fix it up so it works for me, so when I play it, I get more power at lower revs, so to speak.”

After starting two other house music labels, Derrick joined forces with Luke Solomon and Chez Damier (who later stepped aside to do his own project) to create Classic, one of the most well known record labels of our times. Famously starting at release 100, it counted backwards until it reached number one, at which point the label folded and countless house music classics were etched into its history such as Isolee ‘Beau Mot Plage’ and Derrick Carter ‘Where You At’. Prior to and since, Derrick has worked with a plethora of musical legends, many of which appear on this mix as it weaves through the tapestry of his career and interests.

“I am into interesting art, art that’s relevant to my time period – some modern stuff, pop stuff, some new kids doing interesting things, some weirder “green / eco” stuff. There’s one artist, Gabriel Dishaw, who marries two of my larger passions, which are shoes and art. He makes kicks out of recycled computer parts. I’ve got a pair of “Pentium Blazers” made out of circuit boards, heat sinks, wires and such. I also collect some Haring, some Warhol, Banksy, D*Face, Cody Hudson, and Herman Miller prints. Things that I like to think are going to be my retirement fund. At some point when the bottom falls out of this shit! You know, I said that about 10 years ago and I’m still holding on”

fabric 56 perfectly captures what makes Derrick Carter a truly original house music master. The dynamic chugging beats flow effortlessly throughout the seventeen tracks, many re-edited especially for the project or if not reinvented through tight accapellas and undiscovered samples. Vintage classics such as Cajmere’s ‘Percolator’ and Green Velvet’s ‘La La Land’ thread into contemporary and unreleased material such as Almost September’s ‘Love’ and the amazing ‘Moskowitz Remix’ by Abraham Inc. Derrick shapes this mix with his light and tactile touch, creating a flowing ball of energy, at times loose and others intricate, but always engaging.

“I was trying to get as close to a set as I could. One that spans time and goes from maybe 10 years ago, to some stuff that’s not released, to some stuff that won’t be released other than on this album. That’s how a real set is for me, I have some new stuff, some old stuff, some special stuff. I tried to give it that kind of treatment so it’s authentic, and real and valid and present. It’s Derrick. All day.”

DJ T.
TITLE: THE PLEASURE PRINCIPLE
GET PHYSICAL MUSIC
RELEASE DATE: 28 MARCH 2011

‘The Pleasure Principle’ refers to the human being’s desire to seek gratification and avoid pain, to satisfy primal biological and psychological needs; DJ T.’s Pleasure Principle immerses itself, wholly and rapturously, into electronic music’s legacy of authentic soul, helping to usher in a new renaissance of groove-heavy deepness, at a time when clinical club sounds are at their least inspired. The Pleasure Principle is etched and crate-dug, organic and retro-futuristic, a paean to times past that appeals to modern sensibilities. It’s unconcealed dancefloor curiosity brings body music instincts to the fore, yet its shadowy quirks disarm and charm, while uniquely programmed vocals add broad brushstrokes of colour and texture. The Pleasure Principle is quite simply DJ T.’s most accomplished work yet.

The 2009 release of ‘The Inner Jukebox’, DJ T.’s acclaimed second album, led the veteran DJ and producer on an extensive world tour for much of that year. For the first time in his career, he was away from Berlin, Germany and Europe for months on end, but this extensive period of travelling served as the catalyst for a new sound. Although exhaustive and intensive, the Inner Jukebox Tour allowed for a separation from EU house and techno microcosm, and particularly after connecting with new wave of American house, T. returned to Berlin invigorated. Brimming with purpose, positivity, and focus, and fuelled by the need to seek new challenges, T. undertook to reveal a different facet of his musical persona. T. then ploughed straight into constructing and recording fabric 51, his edition for the venerated British mix series, and once complete he decamped to Heidelberg, with his new production partner in crime Stefan Eichinger aka LOPAZZ, and with a new agenda: classic song construction with a range of talented vocalists.

An intensive 9-month period of writing and recording began, that resulted in The Pleasure Principle. Realised through extended jam sessions with Lopazz, The Pleasure Principle unfolds with kaleidescopic soundscapes, musical eclecticism and moody vocal treatments, boasting collaborations with Dave Aju, Jaw (dOP), James Teej, Khan, Nick Maurer & Cari Golden. Coinciding with DJ T. stepping down from a behind-the-scenes role with Get Physical, The Pleasure Principle is the work of an artist fully articulating the outermost reaches of his potential, through his own unique vocabulary. T. describes it best himself: “I’m not the type of DJ or artist who is refining one style for years,” he says, “but people are always telling me there’s a ‘fingerprint’ in my productions, you always hear my roots. Particularly old disco and early house from 1985-92, Chicago, Detroit and old school electro. The whole understanding of making grooves is really influenced from soul, funk and disco. This is the red line that’s there.”

Traces of T.’s production finesse can be found in the most soothing washes of ambient tones, the soaring vocal treatments, the murkiest late-night moments, and at the centre of The Pleasure Principle’s delicate melodies. “Same Plane” featuring dOP prankster Jaw and his girlfriend Amandine (aka Ginger) is a flurry of offset beats and hand claps, a rhythmic hall of mirrors that finds his deep, soulful vocals nestled at the centre of stuttering staccato rhythms, woven with whispers. Nick Maurer, former frontman of Greens Keepers, is no stranger to being at the forefront of jacking dancefloor fare, and here he lights up the album’s first single “Burning” offers this with a twist, as he is doubled, tripled, pitched down and distorted, ominously warning “something has happened, something that I cannot explain…”

Yesterday Tomorrow” features Dave Aju’s preacher man spoken word duelling with piano stabs, combining the stomp and swagger of electro funk with an unmistakable early house framework, while “Citylife” recalls the early 80s warehouse era, and finds American vocalist Cari Golden crooning, siren-like “the city’s in my veins…” James Teej vehicle “Sense” partners faraway melodies with a warm, breathy vocal that gets up close and personal, and Jaw’s second appearance “Remember The Future” is mottled with daybreak dew, and its morning rainforest sounds are illuminated by dappled shafts of sonic light, piping mid-tones and ambient, swirling organ chords. Fellow Berliner Khan adds his grizzled charm to “Leavin Me” colouring deep tech tones with a tale steeped in longing and regret, for a new take on dubby blues house.

Complementing the uniquely textured and individualised vocal workouts, The Pleasure Principle is interspersed with a number of instrumental productions. With its half-stepping beat and unique synth melody “Opera Buffa” evokes late nights and rain-slicked city streets, and shorter atmospheric instrumentals “Unconditional Love”, “Nothing Comes Even Close” and “Pattern Exit Drama” variously take on low-slung cosmic disco, nostalgic slow jams, and proto-dancefloor moments in time.

DJ T. will embark on a tour for The Pleasure Principle, in spring 2011, starting with a release party at Miami’s WMC, followed by several cities across Europe, and then a schedule that will take him on the road throughout the world until the end of the year. Whether it’s experienced during one of DJ T.’s many forthcoming live appearances, in a darkened club, in a quiet moment, at the beginning of the night, or the morning after, The Pleasure Principle can be found at the very axis of mind, body and musical soul.
