Described as “ambitious, tireless and ferociously dedicated”, rising star Chris Lattner certainly appears to be a pioneering individual with an undeniable talent for infectious house grooves. Born in Hannover in 1972, Chris grew up surrounded by the sounds of his parent’s disco music. They further encouraged his ambitions on his sixteenth birthday with a set of Technics 1210’s, unsurprisingly it wasn’t too long before he started to spin records out and about. In 1990 he managed to organise one the first ever techno parties in Hannover, which went on to feature the likes of Carl Cox, West Bam, and Ricardo Villalobos.

Ten years later in the year 2000, Chris decided to take a break and went to reside in Leipzig for a few years before moving to Berlin and rejoining the music scene in 2004 to host ‘The Sound of Berlin’, on one of the fi rst internet radio stations courtesy of Australia’s Pulse Radio. It was around this time that Chris also started to produce his
own music, 2008 saw his debut release ‘Hypnotoad’ on WBA-Records. A year later, his fi nest moment to date surfaced when Einmaleins label owner Eik signed his first EP ‘Defi nition’ in Feb 2009 with ‘Limbo Taxi’ following a month on.

A succession of successful remixes and features followed; ‘Two In One’ in the company of Dan Drastic on Moon Harbour’s Inhouse Vol. 3, a remix of Pawas’s ‘Mac Dub’ on UK label Fear of Flying, not forgetting ‘African Children’ on Loco Dice’s ‘The Lab’ compilation in April 09. November see’s forthcoming material on Luna Records, Fear Of Flying as well as the landmark 50th release on Einmaleins, with remixes to look forward to from Bearweasel, Justin Drake and Pezzner – 2010 looks set to be a very busy year for Chris Lattner.

To coincide with Einmaleins Musik’s 50th release, we caught up with Chris to see where he’s at personally and musically.
You’re placed on a desert island; you may take 3 things only, what would they be?
As I was in the Sahara desert only some weeks ago I know I need a hat, my girlfriend and my iPhone as surprisingly you get service connection in the Sahara!!!… Even better than in most parts of Berlin. Also with my mobile I would be able to call someone to pick us up. Yes I am a smart-arse

Can you describe the worst club you have ever played at and why?
Oh it was just a few weeks ago. A drum ‘n’ bass Club….very, very, very bad sound system. A fucked up mixer, because drum ‘n’ bass DJ’s don’t seem to understand that you don’t have to bend faders (allegedly)……and the promoter did not do any promotion for the party….so the club was almost empty. I had to play 2 hours. 2 hours means around 25 records and I counted each and every one of them.

Tell us Chris, Dubfire has worked the till at a well known fast food chain, what has been your worst job?
My worst job? Hmmmm….let me think. I really don’t know what my worst job has been as I have only ever done what I really wanted to do, luckily. But maybe my very first job when I was 12 or 13 wasn’t so nice. I was a newspaper boy and sometimes when the weather was bad I dreaded it.

Other than house music, what else are you obsessed with?
Ha ha. First of all I am obsessed with my girl. That goes without saying (I hope she reads this!). I’m also obsessed with Disneyland Paris and any kind of amusement parks with rollercoaster’s and dangerous rides. Sounds weird? But it’s true….

Have you ever had all your vinyl stolen or been strip searched at an Airport?
No not so far and I am pretty happy about that I can tell you. As I only really play CD’s now I always carry them safely in my hand luggage…they are more important than underwear…well…

What’s the best 12′ record ever pressed?
